This is my 2016 re-write/re-mix of a song I wrote nearly ten years ago and the original version is still on my YouTube channel.
This hot new version fills in what the other version lacked. It has everything a quality kid’s activity song should have.
The tempo is just right for the young people to follow and the movements are big and fun while exercising the entire body.
The secret sauce is the positive messages embedded in the lyrics.
If you’ve ever been to therapy (yeah, I’ve been to lots) or listened to motivational speakers, (I need to listen to more of them) they all say that you unconsciously project upon the world around you that which you do or think. (So if you stand up, you are more likely to perceive the world as standing with you, even if they aren’t.)
But then there is the leadership law which says that if you stand up, there is a good chance that someone else will take your lead and actually stand up too.
So you can affect both your internal AND your external reality!
And I want my kids to know they can do that!
Two more positive messages in the middle section:
One for our sleep deprived parents – “Sometimes you’ve got to lay down and go to sleep.”
And another for you goal setters – “to make your dreams come true, stand up and follow through!”
Yeah, they are subtle, but they sink into our subconscious and bit by bit, they make our lives better.
Anyway, all preaching aside…
I think this live video (synced with the studio recording) will be just the thing to help you to share the fun with your kids.
Yes, I re-wrote the verses to make them more kid-friendly!
The song is by Carol Johnson, but while her lyrics in the choruses make for lovely hand motions, the beautiful verses she wrote do not make good hand motions. This causes the kids to lose interest during the verses.
So, I re-wrote words in the verses so the kids could do hand motions to them.
My music video shows the original chorus hand motions and the new verses hand motions which I re-wrote.
I hope you like it, and more importantly I hope this new version keeps your kids interested even during the verses!
Yes indeed! This is an oldie but goodie! A swashbuckling public domain counting song of unknown origin, arranged and rearranged by Johnny Only, just for you!
A bottle of Fun! This song was written back in the days when even the kids drank rum because the water was so bad it would make you sick.
Zoikes! Politically correct kids’ singers don’t croon about alcohol anymore, so I changed the words from a “bottle of rum” to a “bottle of fun.”
From there, I added some pirate phrases, splashing water and pirates shouting so it would feel like we were really on a ship.
Sparks Fly on this Smokin’ Guitar Solo! …You gotta be careful with guitar solos on kids songs. They don’t get as excited about them as grown-ups do, but I think you will agree that this song was just begging for one!
Afterall, if pirates had rock bands, can you imagine the guitar solos they would play?
Fast forward to the last verse for your kids in 2015… Who doesn’t want to try a rocketship? Especially, after you find out you might be ‘shark bait’ if you stay on the water.
Thusly, Our song ends in the air instead of the sea, but once a pirate- always a pirate! “And That’s the Life for Me!” AARRRRRRRRRRR!!!
